ESOL Curriculum on Human Trafficking
In 2006, the Florida Department of Education (DOE) awarded CAHR a Civics State Leadership Grant to develop a curriculum module for English Literacy and Civics Education for Limited-English Proficient (LEP) students, and to incorporate ways to assist victims of human trafficking. The DOE saw those who attend and teach classes of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) as being in a unique position to help victims and inform their communities about human trafficking. The curriculum module can be found on http://www.cahr.fsu.edu/sub_htmls/aboutus.html ; it gives teachers different options on how they can adapt their lesson plans to best fit the needs of their students. This site also offers teachers guidance so they can understand human trafficking, know how to identify human trafficking victims and perpetrators, and whom to contact when they have identified a potential victim.
