May will make the case under international law against the United States government for causing the climate emergency. His presentation is based in part on the Petition and Request for Preliminary Measures (“Petition”) filed in September 2025 before the Inter-American Commission On Human Rights (IACHR) that he submitted on behalf of Our Children’s Trust and 15 youth plaintiffs in Juliana v. United States. The Petition argues that the U.S. government’s policies and practices concerning the climate emergency violate the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man as informed by recent Advisory Opinions issued by the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice.
