Melis Howe
Intern
A sophomore at Florida State University majoring in Political Science, Melis Howe is passionate about advancing justice through immigration and human rights advocacy. Originally from Izmir, Turkey, her personal connection to the immigrant experience has shaped her commitment to supporting individuals navigating vulnerable circumstances within the U.S. immigration system. She was drawn to the Center for the Advancement of Human Rights because of its direct work with underserved communities and its mission of providing meaningful advocacy. Melis believes that dignity, safety, and opportunity should never be determined by where someone is born, and she is committed to addressing the systemic barriers that prevent people from accessing those rights. Inspired by Malala Yousafzai’s global advocacy for education and equality, she hopes to attend law school and pursue a career in immigration and human rights law, with a focus on policy reform and impact litigation. Outside of her academic and advocacy work, she enjoys working out, running, and spending time at local favorites like 1851.
